The Special Infrastructures and Civil Projects Group (IEP) mission is to project and coordinate the installation of special infrastructures, experimental stations and laboratories of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), to plan and supervise the maintenance of these installations, and coordinate the project and execution of civil works of the LNLS.

Special installations include installations for electrical utilities, hydraulics, compressed air systems, gases, environmental control, cryogenics and others. These systems are specified and dimensioned for the proper operation of the current Synchrotron Light Source UVX and its beamlines.

The group is responsible for the design of projects and the management of activities related to expansion, upgrade and maintenance of the utilities. The execution of any activities involving the utilities of the LNLS must have the previous analysis and approval by the IEP.

The group also works in the civil work projects for the LNLS, either participating directly in the design and construction, either coordinating activities. Currently, the group is responsible for the coordination of the civil works of the new Synchrotron Light Source Sirius.
