Debora de Paiva Magalhães, who is part of the Detectors Group of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), received the Didier Isabelle Award for best oral presentation by a student at the 14th International Symposium on Radiation Physics (ISRP-14), which was held in Cordoba, Argentina, between October 7th and 11th.
The event is dedicated to current trends in the broad field of radiation physics with hundreds of participants from around the world. The award is given in honor of Didier Isabelle, one of the founders of the International Radiation Physics Society.
Débora holds a degree in Physical Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), and the work presented was based on results obtained during her Master’s Degree in Applied Physics at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) under the supervision of Professor Alessandra Tomal, in a topic directly related to the detectors under development for the new Brazilian synchrotron light source, Sirius.
The presentation discussed developments in the field of Monte Carlo simulation of X-ray detection physics, involving the modeling of the dispersion of charge in the sensor and its impact on the spatial resolution of the image detector. The work included the validation of this model through the comparison with the response of the Medipix3RX detector in experiments performed in several beamlines of UVX, LNLS’ current synchrotron light source, as well as predictions of the impact in the expected resolution for sensors of different materials and thicknesses.
