ABOUT THIS BEAMLINE


The SAXS2 beamline is an experimental station dedicated to Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) techniques in the hard x-rays energy range (6 to 12 keV) for studying the shape, size and structures of soft materials in the nanoscale with sizes ranging from 1 to 100 nm, with applications to molecular biology, medicine, life science, chemistry and material science.

CONTROL AND DATA ACQUISITION

 

All beamline controls are done through EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System), running on a PXI from National Instruments. The data acquisition is done using a Red Hat workstation with the Py4Syn, developed at LNLS by SOL group.

 

All equipment has been synchronized through PXI to render the experiments easy and simple as possible. Long temperature scans with different furnaces are atomized and easy to performed.

 

APPLYING FOR BEAMTIME

 

This beamline is currently not available to users.

 

Submission calls are usually announced twice per year, one for each semester. All the academic research proposals must be submitted electronically through the SAU Online portal. Learn more about how to submit a proposal here.

 

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

Under specific FAPES project PROEM number 04/09447-9 different equipment have been acquired and shared to all users on SAXS2.

Scintillation Detector: In order to measure the incomning X-ray intensity, I0 for calibration of the SAXS data.

KEITHLEY module: In combination with the scintillator, it is used to measure the incoming X-ray intensity, I0 for calibration of the SAXS data.

Linkam DSC600 (www.linkam.co.uk): In-air with 25 microns mica windows Temperature control (-150 C- 600 C) Solids and liquids in quartz capillaries (1.5 mm diameter)

Stopped-flow BIOLOGIC SFM400 (http://www.bio-logic.info/): 1-1.5 mm quartz capillary Temperature control (-10C- 40 C) Fast solution mixing, 4 ms deadtime. Two, three or four solutions are rapidly mixed and final mixture flows in the capillary cell. When the flow is stopped, the kinetic is recorded with SAXS.

MAR CCD detector: Technology: CCD • Integrating detector • Single module, i.e. no gaps in active area • Size: 165mm diameter; 2048 x 2048 pixels • Pixel size: 79 x 79 microns² • Dynamic range: 4 orders of magnitude (16 bits) • Frame rate: 1 Hz, less when readout time is considered • Readout time: 4 seconds
