The Optics Group has as objective to design the beamline optics and to characterize optical elements (mirrors, lenses, monochromators), both for the current synchrotron light source UVX of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) and for the new synchrotron light source Sirius.
Among the services offered by the OPT group is the characterization of the properties and the choice of each optical element, the simulation of the light beam propagation through the optical elements, the thermodynamic analysis of the elements, the definition of the necessary cooling systems and the documentation of all those processes.
The group also operates the Optical Metrology Laboratory, in which the optical elements are characterized and calibrated before their installation in the beamlines. In this laboratory, new instrumentation is developed to improve the precision of the measurement of the surface of the optical elements.
